BMI = weight(kg)/ height(m)2
Eg. BMI= 46kg/(1.5 x 1.5)m = 20.4
The value are:
• Underweight = <18.5
• Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
• Overweight = 25-29.9
• Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
So, if I got 20.4, I'm in normal weight category. How's yours?
BMI is not a diagnostic tool, it just an indicator of your healthiness in terms of weight. If your BMI jumps to underweight or moves to overweight, you've got to do something right.
OK, now we go to waist-hip ratio. What is waist-hip ratio?
See your body now either you got an apple-shaped body (more fat stored around your waist area) or pear-shaped body (more fat stored around your hips). Usually, apple shape is more dangerous than pear shape because he/she has a greater chance to get a lifestyle diseases such as heart disease! Be carefull k ;)
Waist Circumference | |
Men | > 90cm |
Women | > 80cm |
Is your ratio healthy?
Healthy for men: 1.0 or lower
Healthy for women: 0.8 or lower
Now you wanna know your waist-hip ratio. Go to Nestle Malaysia and measure your ratio.
And me, I'm a normal healthy woman with BMI=20.4 and waist-hip ratio=0.72 :)
Happy measuring :)
